Kala KA-FMTGE-C Solid Spruce Flame Maple Electro Tenor Ukulele. Modelled on the classic Kala Spruce Top Tenor, but with the welcome addition of a richly grained Flame/Spalted Maple to the back & sides. It adds a genuine warmth of tone and luxurious quality to this instrument. A brightly toned gloss finish Tenor Ukulele that builds on Kala's fine reputation!
Combining the brilliance of its solid Spruce top with the warmth of it's attractively grained Flame Maple back and sides this instrument is excellent value and provides a Tenor Ukulele of considerable volume and tonal variation. Attractive to the eye, easy to the hand and pleasing to the ear, this Tenor is a Kala classic and hits the spot!
Kala's UK-300TR EQ and pickup section comes as standard, making this tenor ukulele a stand out choice for amplification and performance. Complete with cutaway, the KA-FMTGE-C has outstanding playability, with easy access to the upper frets. The Kala range of electro acoustic ukuleles are among some of the most durable, reliable, stage ready instruments around, and this instrument demonstrates perfectly why Kala has become a first choice for many performers. In this regard, the KA-FMTGE-C does not disappoint, with outstanding volume, warmth and clarity.
An well rounded, premium feeling instrument perfect for playing on stage, a highly recommended favourite here at Duke of Uke.
The price drop made this an attractive purchase, I would not normally buy a Kala. The appearance and finish is Kala quality, I'm aware that's why they are popular. The top is solid spruce and the implication in the description is the back and sides are solid maple, but they are actually laminate. This is not a disadvantage for me as my instruments are taken to gigs and uke groups so I don't want to worry about knocks, etc. However I feel the description should have been accurate. The sound is bright as you would expect from Cedar, but moving up the fretboard there is not much clarity in my opinion. The gloss finish is attractive but makes the uke hard to handle if you're playing standing without a strap. I think it would be a good option to offer fitted strap buttons as an extra. So I'm not dissatisfied but a bit underwhelmed.
